May 30th will mark 6 years since the beginning of Community Link Mission. In celebration, a brief party at will be held at 300 Belmont where the mission expects the building of their new facility to begin this year.

Bring a shovel and join in the “symbolic” groundbreaking at 12 noon!

Summer Time is Swim Time at the Saginaw Aquatic Center
Spring is here and Summer is just around the corner. So, start planning now for your summer swim season. 2011 was a great year at the Aquatic Center and we look forward to continued success in 2012. Opening day/weekend at the Aquatic Center will be Saturday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m. (Memorial Day weekend).

Early Season Hours of Operation:

Saturday, May 26 – 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 27 – 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Memorial Day Monday, May 28 – 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m.
May 29 to June 1 – CLOSED

Normal Hours of Operation: Beginning June 2nd

Monday thru Friday: 12:00 noon – 7:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
Sunday: 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

The Saginaw Aquatic Center provides a wide range of leisure opportunities for the citizens of Saginaw and surrounding communities through its amenities, programs and activities by promoting fitness, wellness and a higher quality of life. All persons wishing to utilize the Aquatic Center must have a City of Saginaw Facility Membership Card or pay a daily fee.

Soles 4 Souls Shoe Drive at the Saginaw, Texas, Recreation Center

For the 2nd consecutive year, the City of Saginaw has partnered with Soles4Souls and will be hosting a shoe drive. Just drop off your retired and unwanted running or casual shoes from May 1 thru June 9, 2012. Soles4Souls collects, recycles and reuses shoes to distribute to people in need around the world. Most recently, Soles4Souls has responded to aid tornado victims in the United States. We are committed to this cause and are asking for your help.

2011 Shoe Drive Results – We collected 737 pair of shoes and raised $155 for Soles 4 Souls (remember $1 = 1 pair of shoes)

The Event: 5K and 1 mile fun run that will be Chip Timed by RunTIME racing Services. This event is a USA Track & Field certified course (cert# TX10076ETM). The course is flat and fast.

REVISED Mandatory Watering Requirements in Saginaw, Texas

The Tarrant Regional Water District and the City of Fort Worth lifted the “Stage 1 Watering Restrictions” for the City of Saginaw effective Friday, May 4, 2012. However, the rules against outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. will remain in effect.

Saginaw Library Boosters Spring Book & Bake Sale

The Saginaw Library Boosters will be holding a Spring Book & Bake Sale Saturday, May 19th, from 10am to 4pm at the John Ed Keeter Public Library at 355 West McLeroy Blvd. There will also be a special Early Bird Sale for Booster Members from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Saginaw, Texas, City Hall Reconstruction

Effective June 1, 2012, Saginaw City Hall will be moving operations to 400 South Saginaw Blvd. (in the south end of Fire Station #1) for the construction and renovation of a new City Hall. This change/process should take up to one year.

On June 1st, City Hall and the phone switchboard will be down. To contact a department, please call directly. For a phone directory, click here.

Residents may still pay their water bills online, by mail (400 South Saginaw Blvd., Saginaw, Texas 76179), or in person (400 South Saginaw Blvd.). However, there will be no drive through or night drop.

Municipal Court will also move to the Saginaw Recreation Center at 633 West McLeroy Blvd.

All City Council and Citizen Board/Committee meetings will be moved to the Saginaw Sr. Center at 405 South Belmont and will be held at their normal time during this construction/renovation phase. For info, click here.

Saginaw, Texas, Beautification Project Springs Surprise on Saginaw, Library

Library Assistant Allie Butler as the Easter Bunny on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 for the library’s morning Children’s Storytime.

On Thursday April 14^th, the Saginaw Beautification Committee beautified the landscaping in front of the John Ed Keeter Public Library located at 355 W. McLeroy Blvd. For the past three years library staff would visit nursery and garden centers to purchase the flowers and then volunteer their time to plant the new items in the flowerbed in front of the library. Now vibrant shades of orange, pink, yellow, and purple perennial flowers line the sidewalk at the entrance of the library this year thanks to the Saginaw Beautification Committee who hired a landscaper to plant the flowers in the flowerbed. In spring, library patrons will see the Elfin Gold Coreopsis, Blue Hill Salvia, Arizona Sun Blanket Flower, and Firewitch Dianthus bloom. When summer arrives, the Snow Hill Salvia and Homestead Purple Verbena will begin to blossom and continue to provide color throughout the fall season. Since all of the flowers are perennials, they will return to bloom each year.

The Saginaw Beautification Committee’s past projects included the Gazebo in Willow Creek Park, a “Welcome to Saginaw” marker on South Saginaw Boulevard, landscaping in Kiwanis Park, and landscaping at the Police and Fire complex. Current members include: Chairperson Melody Leak, who is also the Circulation Manager and Reference Librarian in Saginaw; Treasurer Karen Cromwell; Secretary Pat Friar; member Cindy Sulsar; member Patty Lattin; member Sheryl Warren; and City Liaison Dolph Johnson.
