Roller skating is fun for everyone.

Roller skating is fun for everyone.

Every year since 2003, Aurora Skate Center has distributed passes to elementary and middle school students that allow them to skate free once-a-week for ten weeks during the summer.  The first year ASC distributed 23,000 passes, but the number has grown considerably since the programs inception and this summer, 91,500 passes will be distributed to the elementary and middle schools in 11 school districts.  The matinees are every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

Every summer, Dan Warner, owner of Aurora Roller Rink, LTD., checks with the superintendents of every school district for their approval of the program.  “Everyone understands the value of the program for the children. Children need a safe place to go that is healthy, fun-filled, and aterrific form of exercise.  We just like to check in with the school leadership to keep them aware of the program,” says Warner.

The passes are distributed through the school’s parent organization (PTA, PTO, Home & School) and in mid May, Warner drives the passes to the schools personally.
